Elec. cable scuffing tailgate. Help

I am on my first long distance trip in my new Toyota Tundra CrewMax. The truck pulls like a charm. In my old truck I had the electrical plug installed in the bed of the truck. I decided to use the plug below the bumper to avoid splicing into the electrical system. The wire hangs over the back of the tailgate. I am noticing that the wire is rubbing against the back of the tailgate and scuffing the paint.
Do they make something to suspend the wire farther back so it doesn't touch the tailgate? Has anybody come up with a good solution to this problem?
Thanks in advance.

  • Pack a roll of blue tape with you. Works great until you get a plug in the bed.
  • My tailgate has just enough gap to place the cord through the bottom.
  • A small clamp attached to the underside of the pin box and rearward of the tailgate would hold your electrical cord away from the rear of the TV. Good luck. Let us know what you decide to do.

  • Check with etrailer.com and thehitchstore.com. They make 'T' harnesses that you don't have to splice into your factory wiring.
  • Not sure what it is called, but I enclose the wire in the plastic tubing they use for wire looms. The tailgate already has a plastic guard so rubbing is not a problem there. Works well.
