We were wondering if anybody has added and electric fireplace. We have a spot right under the tv that should be ideal, but wonder about the heat issue plus wiring. We have only a 30 amp service so we would need to be careful when using it say in the evening and again early morning to knock the chill off plus it just looks nice. So any and all comments welcome.

I was on the fence when we ordered our unit with a FP, but now wouldn't ever want to be without one! It cuts way down on the propane usage and the ambience is great. Down to 35F we don't even run the furnace, just the FP.

HI,It should not be that difficult to install. I would plug it into the same receptacle as the TV uses. They do not require a vent, and have 0" clearance to all sides, so the heat is directed out the front vent, not to drift to the top or anything. It should be fairly cold on the sides while in use. At any rate, less than say the 105F ambient temps that can be in the RV in the summer time while in storage.If you ever do decide to upgrade to 50 amp service, it should be really easy if you have it done this way. Have the installer put a 100 amp panel (must be rated over the 50 amp capacity) in the storage compartment in front, with a 30 amp line running to the factory panel, and 50 amp main circuit breaker and new cord about 30' long. Then run things like your fireplace and a couple of new circuits to high amperage things, such as the A/C and microwave. At that point, you will be able to run 'everything' without the need to worry about tripping your 30 amp breaker.Even on 30 amps, I was able to live in 25F weather with hookups, and barely run the furnace. I had a second power cord to run one of my 1,500 watt heaters in my bedroom plugged directly into the power post. The other two heaters I kept on low heat most of the time.Good luck,Fred.

I got ours with the intention of taking it out of the cabinet it came in and installing at that same location. After getting it, decided to just use as is. It's on wheels and fits right next to that cabinet. We love ours.

You shouldn't have a problem on 30 amps. We have 50 amp hookup but use 30 amp sites often. We've never had a problem. If you install it you'll say "why didn't we do this sooner". We use ours all the time when it gets cool. Sure has cut down our propane usage. We love ours.

don't know what is different on the tailgater but I have certainly connected several lengths of cable on my sat hookups. are you saying that there must be one length of cable, from dish to the receiver and there cannot be connectors in it?

Added an electric fireplace to our first 5er. Was a similar installation to the second post with the photos. Biggest difference was I didn't need to add an outlet in the cabinet. Overall and easy project for the average do-it-yourselfer.

Genius this guy is. I'll have to see how deep the fireplace is when I pick one out. A hnge should work.

The Sat cable for the Tailgater has to be a direct run from the sat to the receiver or the system will not work. This leaves me having to run the cable through this box and feeding it up to the shelf. The box will also double as a pass through for the cord on the fireplace when it gets installed. I plan to cut the end off the cord and feeding it through the hole and then putting a new end on inside the box so I can pull it out and plug and extension cord on and place it back in the box and close the cover to keep out rain.

As I am sitting here reading replies I have realized I have a flawed system in the works. I put that box in so I could run the cable through for my Tailgater. Once I put a fireplace in that cabinet I wont be able to reach in there to feed the cable through.

I never thought I would want an electric f/p. Best thing my wife and I have had in an rv. No doubt about it! Romantic and efficient!

I don't know Goostoff, that is a pretty classic looking TV Combo unit....;-)

We had one simular in an old rig that got replaced as well.

I installrd a weather proof box in the side of my trailer this past spring for the sole purpose of having a place to run my SAT cable through the wall for my Tailgator and to have a dedicated line right out to the post for a fireplace that I will be installing come this spring. The Fireplace will be installed in the cabinet right under the TV. BTW The picture of the TV was taken when we went to look at the camper before purchase. That was the first thing to go. There is now a 40" LCD in its place. :)

We love ours too! We do have 50 amp service in the trailer so as long as we have a 50 amp connection in the campground we don't need to worry about it.
