Your converter would be on as soon as you plug it in unless you disconnect it.
The GFCI receptacles would show slight load.
I would shut off the main breaker in the rig, drag the cord around to the inside and test the individual pins to the buss and main breaker.
Test each pin on the male connector to each other. There should be no continuity with main off between the pins.
