When I post in these tire threads I try to stay pretty close to what the regulations and standards say.
The person that started this thread has not returned and we now have three pages of opinions that mostly skirt the tire industry’s regulations and standards. It seems no one takes into consideration that those standards and regulations they so freely skirt are SAFETY standards. To be more specific, they are MINIMUM SAFETY standards. So any time someone offers recommendations below them they are in fact recommending something LESS than the minimum safety standard.
The DOT has recently taken the time to review all of the tire standards. If there were major changes I’m sure they would have addressed them. Everything is now back on line. I cannot find any significant changes to any of them.
