  • I have never used a tuner. I have owned a truck that had had one on it, and it destroyed the electronics. Ran fine until you started towing. It would run a few miles and loose all its power. Dealer finally confirmed that it use to have a tuner, and it missed up electronics. Have a local mechanic working on Durmax, that was also missed up due to tuner. Guess gas would be less expensive as your dealing with a gas engine instead of diesel. It is very risky. I would not take the chance.

60 more actual HP from a little '00 5.4 small block gas engine with a chip is a big stretch for any gas engine we tow with.

On a old engine like that I would concentrate on air in and air out.

However this is a 5th wheel camper forum. You would get a better response from the tow vehicle forum.

X2... money's better spent on improving air in / air out... does no good to dump more fuel in there if it can't get out...

  • You could easily get that extra H.P. if you had a diesel but they're probably a waste of money with a gas engine. I have one on my diesel but have never tried it on a gas.
