Ever heard of vanguard tires

I am in need of new tires, currently have Goodyear g14 , they are 8 years old. A friend who has a large farm uses tires called vanguard , they are g rated and the exact same size. They are much cheaper. He pulls horses all over the country even into Canada with no problems. What do you think, should I give them a try?
  • I recently bought 4 Sailun 637s in 17.5" size. Paid $175ea w/free shipping and had them mounted for $15 each. Have about 4500 miles so far, and no problems. I have always been concerned about Chinese mfg of tires, but too many on internet have been using them without problems, so decided to try them. I think Michelins were about $450 and GY around $385. If these last for 3 years and don't blow, will be way ahead. If they blow, then will hit the insurance to help with damage, and have learned a lesson.

Sure thing. I have a few trips on them and so far no issues.
    From Tampa
    2x to Murphy NC
    1x to New Orleans
    2x Local trips

My load out tends fairly heavy but not overloaded. CGVW is 22k

  • I am so far having great service out of my Sailun S637 load range G tires. They are all steel, quality and much cheaper than the G614
  • Have your friend tell you where his tires are made. Must be stated on the side of the tire. If in China, I would stay away.

Look at these web sites first.

    http://www.powerkingtires.com/Tires/Trailer

At 48 pounds this appears to be a poly carcass LRG tire. I think the all steel ply Sailun would be a better choice if you do not want to pay the high price of the GY G614.

Note this is the same chinese company that makes or imports the Power King TowMax(BlowMax) tire.

At 169 bucks for a LRG 16" LT - it just has to be a great tire, right? And the guy down at the local tire store said we have had really good luck with these, right? Then he said "see you soon!"

  • Just Google, "Who makes this tire anyway".

The two digits (could be numbers and or letters) following "DOT" on the tire tells you who made them and where.

For example, my Goodrich trucks tires are coded M3 - Which decodes into Michelin in North Carolina.
  • 8 years!!! Wow, that in a way, speaks volumes about your tires. Most are replaced 4 to 5 years into their service, no matter what they look like. If they lasted that long, believe I'd bite the bullet and buy the same tire again...The old adage, "you get what you pay for may or may not apply in this case"....I've heard of the Vanguard tires, but don't know of that many that use them on their 5er's. Another tire that is getting some pretty good press is the Sailun tire...the number escapes me at this time,(630?) but you could do a search for "Sailun tires" and should find it...It's a "G" rated tire and cheaper than the GY G614's, but seems to have a very good Quality backing. I run G614's on my 5er with no issues...expensive, yes, but I believe worth it at this time...GY will back their tires also, perchance a failure were to occur....just "food for thought"

I'm "assuming" your 5er has 7,000# rated axles and OEM tires are "G" rated, correct?
