- Racine96ExplorerIt is much easier to hitch and unhitch the FW. However, backing up is a challenge for some of us new at it. We love it.

Ease up Top, he's just expressing an opinion. - mayberrymanExplorerGreat post! We too were very excited but nervous about our transition from travel trailers to a fifth wheel. We purchased ours 4 months ago and love it! Our maiden voyage was 2 weeks at Myrtle Beach. Pulls so easy and I have already improved on my skills in backing it in at home.As others have already posted, you will wish you had made this move sooner. Merry Christmas and enjoy!

One thing that will be different will be your hooking up process. I always leave my wheels chocked and do a pull test after locking in, hooking everything up, and raising the front legs.
Do the pull test before raising the legs unless you like dropping it on the truck bed. If it's hooked up no problem, if it isn't the truck just pulls out without dropping the trailer on the bed. - Deb_and_Ed_MExplorer III will vouch for the handling part: on our maiden voyage with ours, we got caught in that Ice Storm in N Georgia last January. On glare ice, with 2-wheel drive, our 5er followed quietly, steadily - no skidding or sliding when braking, etc on the worst Black Ice we've ever seen (and we're from Michigan). People with trailers seemed to be having more problems with the tail wagging the dog....

- filrupmarkExplorerWhen you raise the fifth wheel to disconnect. After disconnecting measure from the pinbox to the ground. Make note of that measurement and that will always be your connection height. She will hookup smooth as silk. I made note of that measurement and all of my slide measurements inside one of my compartment doors. Enjoy and don't forget to always look up for trees.
- avvidclif1ExplorerCongratulations, it will take a week to get the grin off your face on how it tows. As others have said, Look Up and Turn Wide. Backing will take some practice but it's not a big deal, just different.
As I told people when i was having a hard time with a big rig, "There's a reason this thing has 15 forward gears and only 2 reverse, it ain't made to go backwards"
But now we know where the Grinch is.... - texasclarksExplorer
