Extended Warranties

Not worth the money IMHO.

On a new rig why would you purchase a warranty? The new rig should come with a factory warranty. Maybe after the manufactures warranty expires I would look at it again. But on a new rig everything should be covered for a least a year or two. Why pay for double coverage? All you are doing is giving the dealership a bigger profit on the sale and in my opinion you gain nothing. If you are talking about a used rig then I would consider it.

If not legally required most often the benefits to the seller of the insurance is greater than to the buyer of the insurance on average or they would not sell it. :)

People have different emotional needs so the answer can vary greatly on this question.

We wind up fixing things ourselves so often this can of insurance does not work well for us. I do buy it on some Harbor Freight electronic items if the price is right but not it if cost more than $20.

If you never heard of the company...would you trust buying your health insurance from them? Same would apply to an extended warranty...What makes you think you will need it?

To buy or not to buy is a highly personal decision. I always ask one question:

If you have a major failure, will you be able to cover the cost of the repair, or will your rig be un-usable while you continue to pay on your RV loan?

In a FW, a refrigerator replacement is a $1500-$2000 job. That's probably one of the biggest single item repairs you could face. Of course, other multiple problems could add up to more than that. With a new rig, the chances of you recouping the cost of the policy in claims is very slim.

EW companies are VERY profitable. That only happens because they pay out far less in claims than they take in in policy sales.

When we had our DP, I had no prior experience with them and the thought of a $15,000 engine or tranny replacement was daunting, so we bought into a 2 year EW. After learning more about the coach and becoming more comfortable with it, we did not renew.

Now, we just traded for a Cyclone TH (new) and have no plans to get an EW. but that's just us..... You have to decide for yourself. Eyes open and educate yourself on these policies. READ & UNDERSTAND THE FINE PRINT!

Take a hard look at what they cover and do not,you'll be VERY surprised, I don't think there worth the money

I use to always buy it. I have owned alfa, and Quantum by Fleetwood. Both brands had problems. Yes I used it but never got my money back. When I bought my 2011 Cameo I did not get extended ins. I knew they unit was built well. I have not had a big repair bill with this unit. I did have some big ones with the Fleetwood's but still didn't get enough.

I did purchase an extended warranty on my new trailer. This is my first RV.

Have never purchased an extended warranty on any other product/service before now.
