Exterior Caulking

I am looking for some advise on what is the best brand of exterior caulking to use on the molding on the exterior walls? I have a 2017 Heartland Bighorn 3010re 5th wheel. I know I should not use a silicone based caulk but after that I am not sure?? I am also not talking about the roof this is on the wall molding.

Thanks

  • I would call Heartland with the last six digits of your vin number to find out what calking the factory uses. If it has silicone in it, Nothing will stick until all has been removed. There are products that can remove the bond that silicone has. I have done it.

I will never understand the dislike of silicone calk. The frames of our exterior storage doors were sealed with silicone calk and is still in great shape on our 2005 5er. Also
Never had an issue with new silicone sticking to clean old silicone.
  • The Heartland factory used silicone on my Big Country. It didn't last very long. I am replacing small sections at a time as they fail with Lexel.
  • My 2007 Carriage trailer has SikaFlex 522UV sealant. I am just this year doing some small touch ups where the factory application has gapped to the wall. These spots are small.

SikaFlex 522UV is commonly used in the commercial fenestration (window) industry.

It is available from commercial window material suppliers.
