F-350 or F-450 for Raptor 4014?

Hello. Currently have a 02 F-250 (weight police stay out of this!!!) towing my 2012 Raptor 4014. Truck is getting old and it is time for another. I want to know from the folks that have the 450 is it worth the extra money. It would be a 08-12 model that I would be getting. I live in south louisiana and with hunting and cattle spend a lot of time off road. How is the 450 in mud? Can I get a good set of mud grips for it? Thanks in advance.

  • IMHO a 4x4 dually with 19.5's is OK for slick launch ramps, not so great off-road. The tires are too skinny and rock-hard by design.
  • I got into a very heavy rain with my F350 4x4 and FW a few weeks ago while boondocking. I put it in 4x4 with the electric lockers on and barely made it out. For me, a good 4x4 that will handle the load is better than getting stuck.

It will bury itself faster than you can shake a stick......Worthless as a 4x4 IMHO

  • 450 just a little xtra insurance. I don't know for sure what you call mud grips but the 19.5 michelins look pretty agresive to me. I guess the 450 has 19.5 wheels on it.
