F150 aluminum bed and sliding 5th wheel bracket

I am getting conflicting answers. The dealer says it won't work, and the place that sells and installs the Reese-type bracket says it will work. So what is the answer? Anyone have one of these trucks with a 5th wheel?

The other post on this forum is about an Anderson bracket.....

Whats the new 2017 SD doing for the aluminum bed issue?
    Good question!

Perhaps it is only a perceived issue by Ford bashers? :@

Good point, after the finish is worn away.

    X2

Yep Raw AL steel bolts and rails, I would drill the holes then have spray in bed liner applied. then place some type of thin rubber between the Frame brackets and bottom of bed.

There is no place in the truck where the hitch is just bolted to the bed. It will have steel brackets under it if that's what you are referring to.

    X2!
maybe the 1/2 ton is the issue?

  • OP....You are not giving much info, as to bracket type (sliding?). Has the installer used this set up in other aluminum bed trucks, to know if it will work?

Are you referring to Reese standard rail mounts? Is the other Andersen bracket you mention, a rail mounted Andersen hitch?

With a little more info, or picture, you may get more, and hopefully better responses. We all know there are FW hitches installed in some F150s.

  • Personally, I wouldn't put a paper clip in one of those aluminium grocery getters!! Again, that is just my personal opinion with a bit of research I have seen. If the dealer says don't do it then I would for sure look for a different path!! Dealers are notorious for telling people they can do way over what the truck really can

  • What size fiver?
If dealer says no, i guess you have your answer.
