Factory wired Satellite

I purchased a 5th wheel trailer and needed info on how to install my Winegard Traveler. The 5th wheel is a used 40'2013 Heartland Landmark Key Largo and is Factory
wired for Satellite. I installed the Winegard Traveler myself but this one is factory wired and maybe easier to install so was hoping to get some instructions but haven't been able to locate any. Thanks ahead of time for the info
  • You won't find any instructions. I installed the Travler on my Voltage for Directv and use the Geni system. The cable system was bypassed and HDMI cables are used, instead, to connect the wireless mini-Genies to the TV's.

If you are intent on using the trailer's cable system you'll, most likely, find that the cable splitters are cable ready but not satellite ready. That's what I found on my trailer so they (two of them) were upgraded. Still, we had interference and snow issues, which is why I chose to go the Wireless Genie route. We get crystal clear HD TV with the Genies.
  • I think factory wired for satellite simply means there is a dedicated sat external coax connector with an internal coax cable connecting to an inside coax connector to connect to your (probably) living room sat receiver. And there may be a second similar setup for a bedroom sat receiver. Those internal cables would go point to point and not thru any splitters or other devices.
  • When they mounted our Winegard on our 08 Sundance, the tech asked if he could rob the crank up tv antenna cable that went to the rear slide out, has worked fine for years now.
  • Don't know about the LandMark, but our Redwood was pre-wired. Which means you undo the little plate on the roof where there are one or two coax connectors and pull out the Winegard control cable to connect to the Travler. The other end is in a bedroom cabinet in out unit for mounting the Winegard control head.
Ours is a Single Wire unit, so the power inserter and splitter are all mounted in the cabinet with the control head.

Our Cedar Creek was almost identical.

We had a cut here sticker on the roof and a plate in the small cabinet in the bedroom. Removed the plate and found the power cable that runs from the control box to the Trav'ler.

On the roof found the sticker and said a prayer and cut a hole in my roof, inside was the other end of the power wire for the Trav'ler and 2 color coded coax cables with no ends.

Spent some time positioning the dish marked it all off with a sharpy and Dicored. Placed it back and by HAND screwed the trav'ler down.
Dicored it all again hooked everything up and wala.

Reprogramed the 211z and then later started using the Hopper2 from the house. (Had to install a "solo node".

Go to the Heartland forum (https://www.heartlandowners.org/content.php) and you will have a lot of Landmark owners tell you exactly where it is and how it works.
  • Richard:

Take a look in both your bath and bedroom ceiling, there will be a cover plate where your Traveler wires are located. Contact Heartland with the last 5 fidgets of your vin and they should b e able to tell you where the reinforced section of you roof is to mount the dish. Drill a small hole up through the opened ceiling plate to located the area on your roof. From that point I drilled a hole big enough to pull both cable wires and the control wire to run to the mounted dish. After following the directions from Winegard I covered the wires from the ceiling outlet to the dish with ceiling/roofing tape to secure it permanently.
