FIC entry lock problems

FIC issued a recall for some dead bolt locks. Are there also any known issues on other locks?

Thanks laknox for the feedback... I'm of two minds.
Now that we discovered the secret of the push/pull system it is a very simple fix.
However
I did notice the the inside of the door jam striker plate was a little rough to the touch. So a little smoothing may make the difference.

RESOLUTION:
Put inward pressure on the door beside the door handle, this releases the latch pressure on the striker plate and allows the handle move freely.
Counter intuitive in that your asked to push the door inward before being able to open it outward.

Dremel tool and a small stone to open up the latch hole in the frame a wee bit. Or a small file... :B

These handles are dirt cheap on eBay. You can even get the same key number if you want. $25, 4 little screws and you're done.
I would just replace the whole thing.

And study how it works before attacking the one on the trailer door. The lock in the movable handle is not the best way to lock you rig BTW. The other lock is the dead bolt, which works only with your key. The lock on the movable handle works with universal master keys that dealers have.

Study how the new one works might give you a clue how to best destroy the one on the door so that you can get in.


You also might try again with your key holding pressure up or down(one direction or the other) on the key as you turn it. I believe if I remember correctly, that the key slot is horizontal when locked and vertical when unlocked. Have you tried pushing in on the door with the key slot vertical, while trying to open the door. Maybe the latch is just under pressure on the striking plate on the door jam.

They use zinc--which also may break over time.

Problem is that the latch bar, made of pot metal, has snapped off and cannot be retracted by the cam. From inside, it is easy. from outside..... Get a good drill and some hard, sharp bits. Its gonna be a long day.

Try to find a way to get inside. If not, only option is to drill. This is why I always leave one window lock open. But, not the same one every time. I have replaced door locks twice, but have been inside both times. If you can get inside, it could still be difficult, PM me if you get inside.

Drill the lock out and replace it; handle. lock, the whole works. If you can get inside you can take it apart and replace it. If you can't get inside, get the drill out.
