Bargman Entry Door Lock Replacement

After using this on our 16 MobileSuites for 7 months it works great and is still on the original batteries. I don't carry a key and have it hidden outside for the just in case.

FWIW, for anyone else that may be affected by this key lock recall it's FIC - Fastec Industrial - not FCI, and here's the recall notice.

Harvey51, I had to replace the same lock on our '99 model Class A. the knob on the end of the latch bar broke off, so the latch stayed out and the door could not be opened. I drilled a small hold in the remaining latch bar, then used a screwdriver to pull it back and let us out. The next one (on a different coach) broke far enough up in the latch that we could not get to it to pull it back. That one tok a bit more work to get it open.

Looks like the OP must have gotten his fixed, there has been no reply from him.

Someone mentioned a house lock locking itself so it couldn't be opened from inside. Our door had a habit of locking so it couldn't be opened from the outside. From inside listing the red handle on the right unlocked it. This is the non-deadbolt part of the dual lock. The deadbolt handle is on the left.

This campsite improvization with stick and glue helped but didn't stop it.
Upon opening it with four Torx T15 screws I saw this on the outside

And this on the inside

That large metal latch controlled by the red handle inside the door drops down to catch the lock bolt and lock the door. I don't understand why the key wouldn't unlock it but, anyway, we always use the deadbolt and never lock the regular bolt so this malfunctioning feature has to go. I chose not to cut off the latch, just glued it in the up position with both hot melt and silicone.

Update: a relative broke the glue when he flipped the red handle inside. I will be grinding off that metal arm in the spring.

No- I was talking about the Bargman- I agree most new door locks don't show me much- the Bargman had machined parts, new locks are not really made to be repairable, but Bargman could be completely rebuilt.

In this position it is impossible to open the door from the inside. The recall is to replace the lock cylinder with a new design.
My old Dutchmen never did this and while I thought it kind of weird on the Jayco I really did not think it was an issue until I read about the recall. Well as it turns out my particular lock was earlier than the recall. Attempts to contact FCI were fruitless so it was safer to just replace the latch for $29. The recall page even states that they want to be contacted if the latch falls outside the recall window.

What's wrong with it? These are very good locks, and most times cleaning, lubricating and replacing springs should work.
