I'm not familiar with the Ford bed, but on the Dodge there are channels that the bolts go through when the hitch is properly placed. If it has channels and he went through them, make sure he put the spacers in. I have heard of hitches being installed improperly and they crushed the channel and the hitch would never be able to get torqued properly. On mine the bolts were to be torqued to 100 ft lb. The last thing you need is for the hitch to come loose.
