Installing Victron Components

In motion altering cabinet to accommodate Victron LYNX Distributor and Multi Plus 3000 Watt Inverter. I looked at the cabinet space and thought, hey, I bet I could fit more and better electronics into that space. I should finish in a day or two.

  • Got the inverter in and working. Just finishing wrapping up cleaning the rat nest of wire under the sink. Eliminated the 30 amp cube relay old battery switch. The jacks are separate now front 2 and rear 2. The battery relay is now the rear jacks, the old jack relay is now just the fronts. Jacks have better power now. Two relays and upgraded wiring. The DC fuse panel now has 4 gauge wire feeding it and all the dc circuits, the old 10 gauge is gone. I did do a knucklehead thing though and try to run the AC unit and promptly blew the fuse. It's supposed to be a 400 amp fuse. There's a few odds and ends to het done but I very happy with the system.

  • Good progress today. The inverter is going to be a tight fit but it will fit. I switched the wiring over from the junction blocks to the Victron Distributor.  It's a pretty slick device that cleans up wiring and organizes it and adds fuse protection. I'll make the doors tomorrow and glue the birch veneer on to finish the look to fairly closely match the existing cabinetry.

Victron Distributor connected and workingVictron Inverter just fits. It will be mounted to a door to swing open for easy access to it and components behind itNew countertop and door framingOld junction blocks are gone

  • Hey Jeff, just curious, what made you decide to go with a 3000 watt instead of a 2000 watt?

I wanted to be able to run the AC if in really hot conditions no mater where we are. The fact, you can do less with more, but you can't do more with less. I didn't consider the price too much more. Also, I was able to make it fit a space in the TC that works great. And cost nothing in compromise of something else. Hoping to wrap it up today, deep clean the TC, then go test camping a few days. First purchase will be an instapot. Also looking at getting Starlink. We will be spending more time on the road in the camper and this will improve, widen the comfort level.

I was looking at the space, pretty tight in there, are you going to add a fan and vent for forced cooling? the multiplus alone is suposed to have 4" space minimum all around it.

  • If your inverter is a grid tie model, you can feed camper power into the home. What the inverter supplies does not go against your utility meter.

Not grid tie. I'll just unplug items from the house and plug into the truck camper via long 10 gauge extension cord.

  • ok I am confused a little bit, what did you have in there previously?

It was unusable space. The battery compartment is in there but accessible from the outside. I was able to squeeze the mppt controller, 50 amp dc charger, wire junction blocks, and a mess of wire stuffed in there. My old inverter was just outside that area under the front of oven. The old shore power supply, dead for years is in the sink compartment soon to be removed, replaced by the victron 3000 watt inverter charger. You can see the original cabinet configuration in the opening post, this reply brings you up to date on current progress. Need to make a couple wires today, get a couple fuses of various sizes, ond build the doors. Future plans include another battery, 200 watts more solar, more efficient quieter AC unit.

The original purpose of the space was to conceal vent pipes and to provide a step up to the fold down upper dinette bunk. I think this is a much, much better use of the space.

nice.  I get to start opening up areas and see where I can put my battery and a charger and stuff when I get my camper next week.  I was looking at the victron but I can't justify the price.  right now I am looking at the renogy revo 3000 watt charger/inverter with the renogy 1 add on.  it will come in less than buying just a multiplus by about 300 bucks and I get the monitoring from anywhere in the world, power trends and stuff like the cerbo does, with out having to spend another 300 bucks.  so saving 600 bucks.  the one thing it has that the cerbo doesnt is a 6 axis leveling sensor so I can display how level it is in real time when I am pulling into a campground on my phone and get it as level as possible before I add boards and such to fine tune it. but that is all subject to change dependin on where there is space to put it haha
