I have an F150 5-1/2' bed with a SuperGlide hitch. When pulling straight ahead the pin is maybe an inch forward of the axle. Look at the installation instructions for your hitch to determine if the installer screwed up. I think 4" behind the axle is seriously wrong on a shortbed 150.
