I have the REESE in my TV.
I have forgot to flip the little safety latch where you can throw a lock on it or a pin.
If I don't throw that little safety device, my pull handle will work out about an inch before I get pulled out of the site. I'm guessing that it would be uncoupled before I got too far!
Like the others suggest, you might be high hitching it! Pull test always!
Just wondering what position the jaws are in when it uncouples on you?
Open or closed! If closed, really looks like high hitch!
Well you best check out your Reese to make sure it is put together correctly. I have towed my 11,000# 5er over 20 miles, of city, freeway, back road, rail road tracks, and sharp turns without having the latch flipped and it didn't drop.
It it is a twin jaw it should be near impossible, the design of the hitch makes so the pull on the pin forces the jaws shut why do you think the are hard to release if the is forward pressure on the pin???
Look at the picture below to understand, the pivot point for the jaws is behind the pin! So pin pull forces them shut. I do my pull test as soon as the jaws shut! Back in pin captured pull forward!
