Well if Ken does what I do he did the pull test as soon as the jaws closed. I simply back in jaw close and pull test.
I am fairly certain the B&W jaws will not open in fact now that I think of it there is no way for them to open with the handle closed and pinned.
Some thing does not sound right about what he said happened. If I am wrong someone please correct me.
X2 to the above.
I was the first reply to the thread and have seen no response. With every 5th wheel hitch I've seen, once the safety/latch pin is set there is no way for the jaws to break loose without the pin shearing off or something else breaking.
I am fairly certain once the handle is closed and pinned the jaws will not open to allow the kingpin to enter the jaws.
I am NOT TALKING handled locked!! I am talking handled unlocked and/or unpined!
Please understand how the Reese twin Jaw works.
Ready to hitch the release handle in the in position and the jaws closed, but NOT LOCKED, as the pin enters the hitch the jaws open to let the pin in, once the release handle pops out and back in your hitched, you can then do a pull test!! The hitch will not release unless the handle is pulled. This is why I believe in the design of this hitch.
I have made two modifications.
1. Took the rise out of the release handle.
2. I painted the inner part of the release handle florescent orange, so it is easier to remember to put it back in.
