Fifth wheel hitch problem - uncoupling

Hi Everyone- thanks so much to all of you for taking the time to reply. This is my first time using the forum and was hoping for one or two responses. I had no idea so many of you would respond. (Really guys, it's March, you should get a life! LOL) Some excellent ideas and we will definitely get it checked out and/or buy another. You are right about the trust issue. In both cases we were pulling out of a site to the left at about 10 oclock angle. What is weird is that we've hitched up literally hundreds of times prior to this happening. Regardless of what we decide, we will definitely do the pull test. (That was my son's response too!) Thanks again-

Some of you asked if the lever was in or out afterwards. Both times I was so shocked that I didn't notice and don't remember. It was last August and September.
