I think he just backed/bumped into the closed jaws, did a pull test thankfully, but didn't even give the hitch a good look. I can't say for sure, but I think if the jaws were open, when backing, and pin went into hitch, closing jaws/closing arm, I don't think jaws would open, even if the locking pin was not installed.
Did someone have a bad tank flushing experience? :E
