Well I have towed our 5er over 20 miles without the hitch jaws locked, don't believe for one minute it it the design of the hitch.
X2 I have 19 years on the same Reese 20k hitch without any issues with just the two springs replaced for preventive measures. Good maintenance and a hookup/unhook routine is important.
As is common here, snide remarks about other brands by fan boys does not help the conversation that should be helping others. And it goes beyond 5th wheel hitches. :o
