Fifth wheel hitch

I have a quick question
Many places I have shopped for a fifth wheel hitch want to use a "universal installation" kit, that looks to be some 90* angle brackets and nothing more.
I see Reese (possibly others) have custom mounting brackets that supposedly need no drilling or cutting and use existing holes for a custom fit.
I am thinking the custom mounts would be the way to go since I am so "anal" about fit/finish and strength.
Thanks in advance.
  • My angle brackets have been through 5 trailers in 14 yrs without issue. Toyhauler as heavy as 13K+. So I say it's personal choice. The hitch was on the truck when I bought it.
  • I got mine from Amazon can't really seeing the little angle iron being very strong.
  • I have the Curt custom kit. No drilling. Also have the Curt Q24 Hitch. Perfect for the heavy load.
  • B&W. .Had mine sine '04 and still as good as the day it was built.. Its out lasted 3 trucks :)
  • Since you are in Perris you might try this shop in Costa Mesa.

The owner is very knowledgeable and does a great job welding. I bought my B&W Companion from them.
  • Get the Reese custom kit. It is definitely worth the extra cost in my opinion.
  • B&W x3.

Whatever you decide, get something that is designed for your truck and used the existing bolt holes.
