fifth wheel soft spot

I just purchased a used fifth wheel.

2016 denali 316res

I didn't notice it, but when we got home and my wife was walking through she noticed a soft spot in the middle of the floor that is about 4" wide and runs the length of the living room (10' approximately)

It is not a really bad soft spot, but its definitely noticeable once you step on it.

I called the previous owners and they said they didn't notice anything. Is this something to be of concern, or is there typically a soft spot in the middle because of the slides coming in there?

It has 1 month left on warranty.
  • Before you get all upset, I would do a quick check out yourself. On my Montana there is a area from front to back. Like a crawl space on a house and this is where the tanks are located, plumbing, air/heater duct, and our 5er its a heated space to keep warm so the tanks and plumbing from freezing..Now in my storage area if you remove the panel to see into this area..this way you can see into this area of the floor and also see how its put together, for it also could be the seam on the sub-flooring or how the heat duct is put in your 5er..I would also go to your members forum on your rv and if others have noticed this as other RV's do,such as for my rv the Montana...good luck on your finding of the floor...
  • Check with the previous owner, maybe they would be willing to pay for half the repair. Could be worth trying...
  • So here is the latest update.....
The previous owners said they feel terrible and are willing to purchase an extended warranty to cover this.

so i called several places like good sams and i cant find an extended warranty to cover flooring..

So i sent a video to a local rv repair place that is not a dealer but has really good reviews.

Based on the video, he said the "squeky" spots are in direct line with the vent in the floor. He said the vent in the floor would run the length of the trailer to the front bedroom.
He said that soemtimes manufactures do not have support beams there due to the duct work being right under the floor.

He said his best guess without pulling the underbelly off to look would be there isnt enough support structures.
    he said
"honestly, its too far into the center of the terailer not to have trails or evidence of water entry unless it was in a flood. i have seen this several times on new trailers. most of the time we had to support the floor from the bottom with an extra angle iron support welded across the bottom"
  • Good Sam's has an extended warranty and so do other companies. Whether they are worth the money or not is a different question. I only buy them on new vehicles and laptops.

Just called the dealership and apparently when the general manager told me the warranty was transferable that he was referring to extended warranties.

apparently the factory warranty is not transferable.

This is amazing news as I literally just signed paperwork to purchase this at my bank.

Just signed? call them and tell them to tear it up. If it isn't funded yet you can possibly get it cancelled and go for something else.
  • Is there anytype of extended warranty I can buy that will cover me since they only purchased the fifth wheel 10 months ago.

  • Concern. Had a camp host neighbor whos fiver had a soft spot. Turns out there was a holding tank leaking that soaked the floor. Good luck with what you have.
  • I'd think it would be either a support issue or a water / rot issue. Depending on how bad it is and if it gets worse would dictate what i'd do about it.
