I would imagine the temp of the road surface of the tire is much different than the sidewall. Just curious, I have a temp gun that shows a picture, but I have never used it on one of my tires when on a trip.

I hit the center or the tire along with the hub. Tires should all be similar temp. There will be variables. Rear tire on tandem axles will run warmer. Road shoulder being lower may cause that side to be warmer. Sun hitting may be warmer.
