I would imagine the temp of the road surface of the tire is much different than the sidewall. Just curious, I have a temp gun that shows a picture, but I have never used it on one of my tires when on a trip.

I do the same as Cummins12V98 . . I am really checking for something that looks out of the normal.. Pretty much all 4 tires should be close to each other, if 1 is running hot, that will tell me to start looking into it deeper..
Also ping my hub, and rotors as well
