it sorta seems to me that the pump would work twice as hard, once to pump the water in and again to pump the shower. twice as much wear and tear. yep, probably won't destroy a pump with normal use however. but boondockers would use up twice the juice.

Kind of like saying boondocking will wear out the batteries due to the excess charging and discharging. Yes I agree the pump will run more but not to the point of wearing out.
Maybe one should hoist 50# jugs of water and wear out their shoulders and backs to avoid using the pump!
The pump is designed to..........pump water! Use it as designed and you will not have problems.
