I have finally changed my electric brakes to hydraulic discs and thought I'd just report in that I am extremely happy with the results. We put on the 13" Kodiaks and the Titan pump. I got it all from stopyourtrailer.com. It actually was easy, with the only real difficulty coming from finding the wires for the brakes and breakaway switch inside the camper. My old Alpenlite hides them away pretty good. The old Dexter electrics, which were the big 12.25X3.375 Neverlubes, simply did not stop the heavy 16000 lbs trailer and were malfunctioning on a fairly regular basis (and always at remarkably inconvenient times). I am very glad to see them go. I never thought I'd see the day when I could actually lock up my brakes with the controller, but I can and had to turn the gain way down. The big camper stops now like I was pulling my old 10000 lbs Jayco. I guess I'm a happy camper.

We have another 35 ft alpenlite friend that finally switched their trailer brake as you did. We have never had any issues stopping our 35 ft 2 slide alpenlite. Nice to have good brakes. chevman

I have been thinking about trying to improve my brakes. Dexter 12x2 electric stopping 16K. You know the feeling. I have never lubes also. So do you retain the never lube bearing in the new hubs? Also what was the approx. cost of the parts. Thanks

Yes. I still have never lubes, but Kodiak calls them EXlubes. I ordered one extra rotor with the bearing pressed in that I will carry with me. I can swap the rotor on the side of the road if I have a bearing failure, but you can't swap out a bearing in an emergency. All parts including the extra hub and all connecting tubing and Titan pump was just under $1700 including shipping from stopyourtrailer.

I had a Kodiak kit on my Cameo that we installed from Bill @ Stop your Trailer. AWESOME brakes and Bill is a great, knowledgeable guy to work with. We have factory installed Dexter disc on our Lifestyle. Equally great brakes and performance except the Titan pump is faster and better than the Dexter. Eventually I will change it. Enjoy the new brakes and the piece of mind!

I have the factory Dexter disc set up on my trailer and when I had new tires put on my trailer it appeared that the rotors are separate from the hubs. I haven't looked into this in great detail yet, so I can't say for sure. I want to get a spare bearing/hub assembly as well to be able to get out of trouble on the side of the road in the event of a failure.

Yes they put all other suspensions to shame. That is why I am not too concerned to be 750# over on each axle.

That's why I try to persuade prospective buyers to look past all the decorative "foo-foo" and look at what the Brits call the "oily bits" - the underlying mechanicals that the manufacturer selected. The chances for problems are much lower when the manufacturer uses quality parts (well, at least for the RVing world) such as Goodyear G114 17.5" tires, Kodiak disc brakes, MorRyde independent suspension systems, Progressive Dynamics PD9280 power converters, Progressive Industries power monitoring systems, Samsung TVs, etc. rather than the cheapest stuff available based on the premise that most buyers aren't going to care about anything but how nice the interior furnishings look.

Good to hear all the positive feedback about Bill and the conversion........I just picked my pallet of parts up from Bill at the shipping companies warehouse! The install starts next weekend, the Ford module is delayed. I'll post on the results and looking forward to great results on the first trip down to Myrtle Beach in a few weeks.

If they used disc on the new trailer they could apply the cost to the trailer and probably cost you(the end buyer) $100 or less. I put my discs on about 9 years ago and love them, but, I wish I had gone with the stainless rotors. My feeling at the time was "I'm never going into water like a boat so why spend the money? Well, they sit around a long time between uses over winter and are really rusty, but after a short time they are scrubbed clean.I guess I worry too much.

The happiest day of my camping career was watching the local scrap metal guy drive down the street and pick up my old Dexter cast iron drums and brake assemblies.

I also dealt with Bill, he knew his stuff

I just finished my install Friday as well. I went with the full Titan package and also purchased from Bill at stopyourtrailer.com.

Considering how reasonable the cost of these kits are I can't believe I didn't do it on my previous 5th wheels!

There's no comparison between the Dexter drums on our 2004 Mobile Suites and the Kodiak discs on our 2014 Mobile Suites. Once you try the discs, you'll never consider another rig with drums, in my experience.
