Fireplace noise

The fireplace in our 2016 Flagstaff is starting to make a squeaking noise about once every 2-3 seconds. The noise is still there if the fan and heater is off, and seems to be related to the fake fire. Wondering if anyone else has any expirience with these. I'm laughing because the owners manual gives no mfg name, but gives a model # as
EF-30B
Thanks

'EF30b RV Fireplace' brings up these views on GOOGLE SEARCH. Maybe one of these views is your RV Fireplace. Mouse click on the correct view and see what info it gives you...

    EF-30b RV FIREPLACE

Also in your Appliance folder you should have received with your trailer package should have a specification sheet on this unit if installed by the Manufacturer.

I found my folder package stuck in beside the Water heater location...

There is two motors involved in the Electric Fire Places being the main fan motor and another motor for turning the flame display drum for the light display... Just seeing the flicker lite display warms us right up haha...

We used to just watch the light display all the time with the Electric heater part turned off. The Electric heater section is a basic portable electric heater and draws alot of power.

The only real good we found with ours was first thing in the morning to take the chill off the room having your first cup of coffee...

A few years ago when these started to get popular we used to always enjoy going to Gatlinburg and staying in their cabin units and their outside signs always said Fireplace Included. Loved to sit aorund the wood burning fieplace watching Jonny Carson haha... Then all of a sudden these started to show in the cabin and by law I guess all had timers on them... Would run for a hour and then shut off haha... Then you had to get and restart the timer again... So much for all of that... Dimplex models were the first big name in Electric Fireplaces...

My experience with our squeaking fireplace went like this

I had to remove the fireplace
Open the area where the flame effects are located
I found a small metal rod wrapped with aluminum foil ( a rather clever little flame effect device
Be careful not to damage or alter the foil setup)

The metal rod was connected on one end to a motor and on the other end the rod was stuck in a hole in a metal bracket
no bearing , just metal to metal
    No wonder it squeaked

My first inclination was to apply some hi temp lube
I was concerned about the smell that lube might creat so I used the lube sparingly
Next I was easily able to bend the metal support bracket to better align the effects rod
In fact, Much better than it came from the factory

We used the camper 2 months after the repair with no more squeaking problems

I might have to repeat that process when we start camping again this Fall and Winter

Hope this info is of some help
  • The fireplace in our old 5th developed a squeak like that. Was still doing it when we traded it in. I believe the FP was a Dimplex.
  • My fan bearing is noisy as well. Will probably have to replace the heater fan motor. The fireplace is made by our "friends" in China. I'm sure a replacement part will be no problem. Right...
  • I'm betting either the small motor that turns the "fire" is dying, or a bushing is squeaking.

Either way, you get to take it apart and either disable the motor, lube a bushing, etc. Honestly, I've thought about disabling my motor, as it's a bit loud.
