You really can't overfill them but if you have a lot of air in one and it doesn't purge out all the way it's not complexity full, you can knock to figure out if your full. But towards the top of your tanks you won't know for sure. The only other way to make sure you line is not blocked fill it and dump it and measure each bucket.

Use paper plates and cups. Limit your showers!!
Place a bucket in you shower and run the water for five minutes and really see how much water your really using.
