Fridge in slide-outs?

I have heard from people that the RV fridges don't cool well if they are in a slide because of no vent? Our friends bought a class A and they have a double door fridge and it's does not cool or freeze well at all and want to replace with a residential fridge. Theirs wont keep ice cream.

Has anyone else had this problem? And does the double fridge work as well as the single door?

  • Our 5er has the fridge in a slide out. It does have vents in the side wall. Cools very good and freezer keeps everything in there frozen.
  • I have a single door frige (8 cu ft) in the slide and it has always cooled and frozen just like my fridge at home. It has two side vents. I read that some people had problems so I put a computer fan to suck air in the bottom vent and have never had to turn it on. I have heard you can adjust the temp by moving the clip on the fins at the back of the fridge.

  • My fridge works just fine in the slide out. Maybe your friend needs to install a fan in the coil area.
  • My travel trailer has a kitchen slide and my refrigerator has a vent and cools just find and keeps ice cream and everything else frozen in the freezer.
  • I have a new 2014 Bighorn with double sided fridge in slide out. Had an issue with not cooling well on hot days. NORCOLD sent me a new temp probe unit, which I replaced the old one with in about 3 minutes. Fridge will hold temp anywhere from 32 to 38 F either on AC or LP. It works great now. Good luck.

  • Ours has a fridge in the slide. No problems with cooling.

It does however have a vent midway up the wall outside as well as a second vent right at the top. Plus it has a thermostatically controlled fan in the chimney.
  • No problem in a slide. Did you mean to post in 5th wheels?
