Never had a problem in 12 years with mine.

I guess I don't understand why you'd have issues just because the frig is in a slide. The only difference that I can think of is that when slide is out its all sticking out away from the side of the trailer. They are still in the same cabinet configuration regardless of whether its in a slide or otherwise...what am I missing?? Most toy haulers out there have the frig in a slide if it has 2 or 3 slides, I'm sure its the same on a 5ver.

I have a Norcold frig in my slide and was having similar issues related to its cooling ability. This was especially true during our beach camping (which is most of our summer trips). I also had concerns about the Norcold fridge recall and the potential for fires.

I solved both these issues by installing an ARP module wired into the fridge controller. The install was a little tricky but the vendor has great tech support. Go to the below website for more information

Tinner, the issue is the vent is on the face of the slide versus out the top. The natural flow of hot air is blocked.

I have had my fans fail and the temps go up quite a bit. I added two more fans at the base of the refer coils since we camp in really hot weather.

The reason that they don't cool as well in a slide is there is no roof vent, they have to vent from the side which is not nearly as efficient. That is why when installed in a slide a cooling fan is required.

A camping neighbor and I were chatting about dry camping and he was disappointed in that he didn't realize at the time of purchase that his frig in the slide had an extra fan in it and that it increased his battery discharge and lessened his ability to extend battery life without recharge.

I would think the direction the RV (location of the fridge) faces the sun matters a lot. Is there a tree shading it, etc.

Our 2001 with refer in the slide seems to work fine without any problems. So did our previous rig.

Mine, in a driver's side slide and with built in fans, works fine. I did replace the OEM thermoswitch with an attic fan control thermostat from Lowes.

I try to park when possible with the nose of the trailer pointing South or East so the slide is on the shady side in the afternoon. Last Summer we spent parts of June and July in the desert Southwest.

I got a 6x9 "Shade Sail" made of white nylon fabric at a patio supply place and rigged an attachment for one short side to the top edge of the slide with S hooks. The bottom edge is pulled out about 4 or 5 feet from the trailer like a lean-to using tent stakes and parachute cord (even in the gravel at some CGs). This little bit of shade seemed to help with cool down and with holding temp when it was 110++ outside.
