Mine did the same thing. I read where there is a clutch on the drive motor and if it becomes too hard to crank the clutch will start to slip causing a clunking noise. The cure for mine was to remove the cap from the top, just pry it up, and put some oil in the leg. Good old 20 wt worked for me. On the street side the leg was between a couple walls making it impossible to get at the cap. I removed one of my propane tanks and drilled a hole through the wall then through the side of the jack. I was then able to get some oil into the jack. After letting it soak awhile, it now works like it did when new. The jacks had dried out and were binding inside. Now they work great. Hope this helps.
