I'm looking for some feedback on what your fuel costs were to drive from southern Ontario (or even the Buffalo area) to the Tampa area of Florida.
Yes, I realize there are plenty of variables here. Tow vehicle, trailer size, mileage your vehicle gets, price of gas. But I am going crazy with litres, gals, US gals, KMS and miles. So if I could get a couple of ballpark figures ($500 -$800 $1000) just to give me somewhere to start.
I have a 3/4ton HD GMC 8cyl. pulling a 27 foot Cougar 5er. If someone has something similar that would help too.
Thanks.
Have you tracked your mileage yet? If so, simply take that number, divide the miles you want to travel by it to get total gallons. Use Gasbuddy.com, or another fuel price site, to get an average price and multiply. The GoodSam site has a trip planning feature if you're a member; so does AAA. Enter your specifics and it'll give you an estimated fuel cost.
An interesting thing about towing FWs is that, no matter how large, we all seem to get about 10-12 mpg, =on average=. Some get less if they're exceptionally large or the driver has a lead foot; others get more with smaller FWs and more conservative driving. I know that, on my usual 300 mile round trip to our annual boondock site, I picked up about 1.5 mpg by dropping down to 60 mph from 65. Of course, YMMV... :B
