How many gallons per minute does a Bugatti Veyron need to tow a trailer at 250 mph? Will my ST China Bombs handle that speed?
The reason objects have a terminal velocity when falling through the air is because they reach a speed where drag increases to a level where they can no longer accelerate. That's why parachutes work. Going faster requires more power and more fuel.
The 4100 Lb Bugatti Veyron requires 1000 hp to reach its top speed of over 250 mph and burns 1.4 gal per minute in order to stay there.
My point was how much power and fuel it takes to propel a very aerodynamic and comparatively light vehicle at high speed, not a heavy truck and 5er with barn door aerodynamics. - transamz9ExplorerNot everyone is rolling in the dough.
- caysea7254ExplorerWe run between 60-65 on Interstates and we average around 12 miles on flat land but you throw some good size hills in there then its around 9. Tara

We don't really care about fuel mileage anymore. I look at it this way. We just spent 21 days and 2200 miles on the road having fun, Fuel + RV parks came out to $78.00 a day over the whole trip. Out west here you cant even stay in a decent hotel for $78.00 a night and you would still have fuel cost. When ever anyone says wow what mileage do you get pulling that fifth wheel. I just ask them can you do the same things I do cheaper than $78.00 bucks a day????? My thought is if I need to get a certain mileage 12mpg not 9mpg It is time to stop traveling and just stay home, like most the people that ask me wow what mpg do you get pulling that fifth wheel. I understand people have a budget and this way of thinking is not for all, But it cost to travel so you pay gas or you pay hotels.
X2
I really don't care anymore either. As long as I'm enjoying the drive, company and other things related to camping. I'm always happy when the 5th is behind the truck. If fuel mileage makes or breaks a trip, then you shouldn't be RV-ing. Enjoy your rig and your trip. - GoPackGoExplorer

Probably not but I'm sure that LTs would do fine. - StefoniusExplorer

It's been a lot of years for me, too. I'm pretty sure that doubling speed squares drag and cubes HP.Stefonius wrote:
Could have sworn it was speed squared and drag cubed. It =was= 40 years ago when I had physics... :-/ACZL wrote:
Not true from a physics standpoint. When you double your speed, you encounter four times the wind resistance, and you need eight times the horsepower to maintain that speed.
You're pushing the same amount of air out of the way at 60 mph as you are at 70 mph.

My truck wont shift into 6th unless I get up to 65 when iam in to mode pullind the fver. If I shut tow mode of it will shift and run around 1600 rpm at 65
Personally, I shut off T/H mode when running on the flat, for the same reason, though I'm in OD at about 53-54. When I get into grades, then it goes back on since I'm not worrying about OD at that point in time.
