Furnace floor vents

I wonder why they put floor vent's in the bathroom & bedroom in 5ers, especially the kind that I have that don't close. We all know that heat rise's so while I'm comfy sitting downstairs my Lady is dying from heat in bed. Anyway I just blocked those 2 off with foil tape so we'll see how that shakes out.
  • In the bathroom we just put the trash can on top of the vent, still some air flow, but better.

Ducted AC was bigger problem, you could hang meat in the bathroom when the AC was running. Put a piece of cardboard with a pie shaped piece cut out in the vent, that worked as well.
  • YES furnace REQUIRES minimum airflow so it won't overheat
Most mfg. can't be accused of over doing it......usually just install minimum.

We have one that is right in middle of kitchen floor where you are either standing on it or having it blow up your pant leg/dress.....woo hoo!

Craft store......bought a package of flexible magnetic sheets. Cut them just a bit oversized and place them over the register in kitchen. Throw rug went over the top of that.

Other registers were replaced when we first bought RV cause they were cheap stamped metal that broke when I walked on them. Bought decorative registers that can be opened/closed. We adjust (not fully close due to the closed/unused one in kitchen) to balance air flow.
Bathroom has round adjustable one in side of sink cabinet.

In summer when not needed we close and cover with the magnetic covers. Keeps stuff from falling inside them.

  • On the 3 rigs (5th wheels) we've owned they all had heat to the bedroom and bathroom. They had smaller 2" ducting to reduce flow for the reason you mention. Manufacturers are hesitant to have shut offs on vent registers because if you shut off too many you can reduce air flow and overheat the furnace plenum. Then you have a safety issue. Just my thoughts. rockin'
