Gas engine

I have an 8.1 Allison, works great.

dat is a big load. A gasser wil get you there if you aren't in a huge hurry and think you have to go 80 up the mountain passes.

I ony tow 10K with my Ford 6.2.

I pull 9200lbs with a 6.4 Ram. Empty weight means nothing. Loaded you will be over 13000lbs. You really need a 1ton diesel. In my opinion, too much weight to be happy with the GM 6.0. Maybe wait for the new GM 6.6 or Ford 7.3 but I would just get the diesel.

You are talking around a 14,000# loaded RV that = Diesel 350/3500.

Plan on visiting the Rockies and the Sierras?

Any of the later model big 3 gassers will tow that FW with 4.10/4.30 gears. They are rated for a 15K loaded FW weight. Yes, any of the big 3 diesels will do it better. If you stay in your flat country, the gasser will work fine. It will take patience and high RPM in the steep hills/mountains, if you head there, but you will get to the top.

take along your piggy bank, it takes fuel to feed them horses. gas or diesel.

Buy a gasser. Then you can be like me and buy a diesel less than 2 years later!

I tow a 41' Toy Hauler that scales at 16,500 with a 2013 Ford F350 Dually with a 6.2 gas engine and 4.30 gears without any problems. Truck & trailer scale at 24,500. I've towed a 14,500 lb gooseneck horse trailer with this truck and also with a 2006 F250 with the 6.0 diesel, which was not the best diesel engine ever made. Both towed my trailers with no problems. A buddy has a Ram Dually with the Cummins diesel towing a 39' toy hauler that weighs 15,000 lbs. He gets 10 mpg and I get 7 mpg towing. Diesel engines cost approx $9,000 plus more than a gas engine, diesel fuel is averaging about $.75/gallon more than gas, and the diesel has higher maintenance costs. It's hard to justify a diesel with those figures unless you are towing heavy almost everyday. Gas engines & transmissions have come a long way and are getting better every year. Anxious to see what the new Ford 7.3 and GM 6.6 will do. In the end it's a personal preference, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy a gas engine again - just spec it out with the correct rear end and towing package. Do your own research as most salesman are clueless when it comes to spec out a tow vehicle. Dont settle for what's on the dealer lots, order a correctly spec'd vehicle if you have to.

Maybe it can do it but who wants to listen to the engine screaming at you. Also 6mpg maybe mountain towing would get costly.
