Gas in Toy Hauler Tank

I don't keep fuel in the tanks for any length of time. After a month or so, I pump it into my Jeep figuring I will want fresh fuel for the small engines anyway.

Good idea. That may be the best solution for the tank. Can you get all the fuel out?

Also, what about the fuel that gets stuck in the generator for a long time?

I think I can get 99% of it out. Never have smelled that varnished fuel smell in two years. I installed an electric fuel pump to transfer fuel from the generator tank to the fuel station tank, so emptying it all is pretty easy.

I deliberately ordered mine without a generator to avoid the bad fuel problem and it would pretty much only get run for maintenance than actual use.

You need to run the pump for the fuel station once a month or so. If not the gears will dry out then you'll have a problem. I've used stabil for years. Last summer a friend wanted to borrow my portable Honda gen. Started on second pull with gas over a yr old. Never had any issues. When I had a boat, put the stabil in and put it away for the winter. Started right up in summer.

IMO you can never get all the fuel out. And because of this. I use stabil and fill it up all the way. You would be worse off with the condensation build up then the fuel going bad. The little bit left will go bad very quickly and gum up the lines etc. I have bought many bikes that were drained and had far worse issues than bike that had fuel in them. I bought a Harley a few months back that was left with 1/2 tank from 07. The top of the tank was solid, flaking off rust and the bottom of the tank (that had fuel in it) was fine... So. After a trip put the recommended amount of stabil in, fill up the tank, drive it home, to mix it up, run the genie, until the stabil gets to the card, shut it down and forget about it. I would still run the geni every few months..

Plus I want fuel in the tank as part of our disaster prep plan.

I always add gas and Stabil before we leave on a trip. I also add Stabil to our gas jugs for the bikes. Then at the end of the trip I pour anything left in the jugs into the TH tank.

If we haven't gone out on a trip in the last month, I go down to the storage yard and run the gen to circulate the fuel in the lines and turn on the air conditioner to run it under a load.

The fuel tank is for fuel. Use it.

If there are cruddy cooties in the tank, then it's better to dilute it with more fuel than to leave a bunch of dead air for more condensation.

drive your vehicle once a week and use up the fuel in a period of time and put in fresh when needed.

I didn't photo document the install, but a inexpensive 12v fuel pump from the parts store, few feet of hose, and a switch does the job.

Of course not silly! I use the refrigerator on every trip, but I have only used a generator once in the past year. Sitting without use would just be another liability and expense I don't need.

I usually put Stabil in the fuel anyway since it starts degrading as soon as it is made and delivered. Good practice/insurance with the junk we buy at the pump these days.
