I got a couple of joints of 3/4 pvc and cut them down to make a measuring stick. When they are together they are the height of my air conditioner plus 3 inches. They can ride in the bed of the truck or in the basement. No need for a spotter, just take a quick check for clearance.
Good for canopies, tunnels or bridges.
So at a suspect low bridge or tunnel w/out a sign......you stop traffic, get out your 3/4 PVC and determine your clearance??..:S

I too have a measuring stick. Its an AWESOME idea...especially if ever have to tow solo. If you are tall, there should NEVER be an assumption that it will be ok. And you need to know exactly how tall you are.
FIRST - I scout out my route before I go to avoid low bridges and/or tunnels via Allstays Camp and RV app plus trucker atlas.
SECOND - I have a trucker GPS in my truck that can alert me to a potential problem and it serves as a double check on my routes. If I miss a turn on my planned route, it will guide me to a safe route, but I'm on high alert during this type of event. This happened twice last trip.
THIRD - I have my pvc measuring stick for in the event of a bridge/road change or for bridges and such off the beaten path...or for in event something changes on the road such as road resurfacing.
I've used my measuring stick to gauge how high wires were when evaluating an off the beaten path route BEFORE bringing the trailer through.
We are 13'4" and my stick is 1" longer than that when assembled.
We only stop at truck stops unless we can't for some reason, but our truck is diesel. Go in and ask the attendant if you are unsure...if you have a stick, you're golden.
