Can anyone comment on the diff of noise levels in TT vs 5ers? Most TT have the gen mounted next to the forward bed and seems like it would be quite noisy?
We have a 2006 WW FSC2800. Our O’nan 5500 is located on the street side in the kitchen area. We’ve never had an issue with noise. In fact I consider it more as white noise.
We often party late, run the A/C during the heat of the day, and take a nap during the hot afternoons. The slight rumble and sound of the A/C and gen helps cut out outside noise.
We also used the Gen-X exhaust riser system (I think that’s what their called). This vents the gases up above the roof of the trailer. This is a safety factor and a courtesy for your neighbor when camping close. Hap
Ours is under the front BR. We've used it several times and have no trouble sleeping. It is a quiet hum in the BR, and in the rest of the rig you cannot hear it running.
Our Raptor had it under the front bedroom, as does our Motorhome now. I can hear it running but its not enough to bother me. It really depends on which generator is installed IMHO. We've had the Onan 5500 in our past two units and its very quiet even standing outside. However a friend had a 5er Hauler with an Onan 4000 and you couldn't stand outside while it was running and talk at a normal volume.
If you are out shopping, ask to have them run while you are in and out of the RV.
No issues with sleeping with our Onan running, but our onboard genny is installed midship where a steady, muffled hum is all that is heard from front bedroom. Also have the Champion 3100 inverter genny and just roll it down the ramp and fire it up with the remote control, much quieter and easily runs our AC unit and more while using far less fuel.
In our old Raptor bumper pull, it was loud. It was right under the bed. It also made the bed hot. In our Impact 5er, it's still "under the bed" but it's further away and has better insulation so it's just a low hum. I could sleep in the 5er with it on... notsomuch in the bumper pull.
just a soft hum...not bad at all in my Raptor. My exhaust does exit on the curb side however, so i dont know if that makes a difference. Guess for 2007 they routed it on the curbside so it wouldnt exhaust under the bedroom slide.
