Having a truck camper reduces your combined length by overlapping the living space over your tow vehicle, but it requires a much beefier tow vehicle due to the payload requirements. I wanted 20' of cargo space and about the same for living space but did not want a 40' trailer. Most of the motorhomes that were 25' or less in length did not have the tow capacity or 4wd that I wanted which is why my setup works better for me.
