I can't recall ever seeing a tire shop jack anywhere other than under the axle u-bolts. I've never done any damage or had a mishap doing the same.
Yep - and all those tire shop employees were employed at Taco Bell
a few weeks prior to the tire shop - and will most likely be moving to a new "career" in the near future.
My favorite is the tire shop employees who will torque your aluminum wheels (only) with an impact wrench.
You call a halt, explain you want 'em *hand* TQ'd with a TQ wrench.
Reply is something like........
"Oh, no problem - the impact is set for 100 pounds".
Yeah right.
However - no reason to follow the recommendations of the axle mfgrs, or the tech reps for your brand (It's all just "CYA" for them).......
always follow the advice of folks on an internet forum - as they will back it up their advice with an ironclad guarantee to repair any damage you do to your rig...:R
Takes a couple of minutes longer to -
Jack under the frame, one bottle jack at either side of the two tires (one side at a time)
For the OP with the surprising location of a propane line running *under* the frame - (IMO) re-locate that line to the inside of the frame no matter where you ultimately choose to jack...:W
