If they said it was okay to jack under the axle some nimrod would put that jack in the middle of the axle and then complain, "But you said it was okay to jack under the axle".fj12ryder wrote:
I've jacked under the U-bolts on both 5th wheels we've owned with no issues. I would never try to raise the trailer enough to change a tire by jacking under the frame.
You need to tell Dexter their recommendations are wrong!..:R
Ditto (most) trailer manufacturers.
Driving onto a low stack of 2x6's or 2x8's is a common sense solution to add some height to the wheel with the flat - long before the device for same came on the market.
Been doing that (with bottle jacks) since 1975 also - no big deal.
Should add it's always easier to "crib" under a jack (for the frame lift), than get even a low profile under an axle with limited ground clearance.
BTW - every poster that suggest a noob do *anything* differing from a mfgr recommended procedure, should add....."use my method at your own risk".
The smiley that goes with that statement is on Murphy's face.
.
If you talked to someone who isn't influenced by the legal department they'd tell you the same thing. I'm more than willing to tell Dexter, Lippert, and whoever the same thing, and if they're honest they'll agree.
