- kennethwoosterExplorerWe all need to check our rigs closer.
- bpoundsNomadInteresting that it has some sort of reinforcing block. That part defined where it broke.
Since you are going to be doing some work, I would consider going to shorter hangers, and go spring over axle to make up the difference in height. - howardwheelerExplorerI'm planning on triangulating to some cross bracing that's already there in addition to angle iron on the hangers.
- rhagfoExplorer IIIThat hanger is way too long! I would have a sub frame installed and normal length hangers looking at the picture about 3" to 4" sub frame!
- WNYBobExplorerSomewhere I saw a photo of a "sub-frame" that was fitted between the suspension hangers it went side to side and was cross braced. That would reduce lateral forces on the frame.
I will post if I can find it. - larry_barnhartExplorerI give our fifth a good look every summer and this summer the wheel bearings will be greased and frame inspected. Nice for your trip you looked. good job,
chevman - howardwheelerExplorerTaking it in on Tuesday to have major welding and reinforcement done all around. Fortunately a very good friend is a commercial welder and trailer builder. I'll post some repair pictures when it's done. I'm going to not only fix it but also put some major angle iron on the hangers to keep any side pressures well braced. If I'd only looked at the outside of the hangers I might have missed it all until I was well down the road. Fortunately I slid all the way underneath. It's a heavy trailer but these hangers are quarter inch steel. I don't know how I did it or when. It has to be in the last year because I had all new wet bolts put in last spring.
- pianotunaNomad IIIGreat that you found the problem!
- DutchmenSportExplorerWow! That's a great big "outch!" Glad you found it at home, and not when you could have been forced off the side of the road!
Good luck in the repair! - buc1980ExplorerThat bad you need a shop to weld new hanger .I recomand to cut all the hangers or reinforce them. The distance from the weld to the spring is to big.Keep us inform.
