Getting Ready to Go (One yr. trip)

Well, we are really doing it. Sold the house last week, now we pick up the new 5th wheel (303RLS Grand Design) this weekend and off we go by the end of the month. We are going to hang local for a few weeks for shakedown trips near the dealer and then head north from Atlanta to who knows where.

Our intent is to be on the road for a year so so and then buy a house wherever we think we want to live. We did a 10 week trip (in 25 ft. TT) last year to Banff then Vancouver back to Atlanta. So we are not complete noobs to long trips. That trip was scheduled to the day for each location. This trip, no reservations. We'll stay wherever, whenever, as long or short as we want.

I am sure we will have some questions etc. for you guys and look forward to sharing experience.

Travel smooth.

  • One year from now will seem like one week... 3 1/2 yrs full time, no house; still exciting and no desire to stand still.
  • Your living my dream, I hate you :) I /we wish you the best on your adventure. Keep us posted PS The Smoky's are a great place to start

Congratulations, steelhands! We'll be ordering a GD 337RLS later this year as we prepare to go full-time. I'd be interested to hear how your F250 handles with the 303. Keep us posted - and have a great trip!

Yeah, we too are interested in how that F250 handles the 303. I'm pretty hard to please so we'll see. We'll trade up if we have to. And yeah, we will look into reservations for the major holidays. Can't wait to start a journey with no real destination. We think, maybe Nova Scotia and then west and south into Utah and New Mexico. I want to do some skywatching where it's really dark. SCUBA diving in the Florida Keys for sure on this trip.
  • Ha Ha!! If you are like a lot of us, that "year or so" may well end up as "several years or so"! Looking for that perfect place to land is not all that simple. So many great places each with great and non so great advantages.
It only took us 9 years to settle on a place to land.(But not stop traveling)
Enjoy your adventure, we'll be looking for you in the "Full timers section"
    Welcome to the road!!!

  • As major holidays such as July 4th get closer you might consider reservations unless you don't have a problem boondocking or a truck stop.

When you think you've found a place you want to buy a house again, rent one there for at least six months before you buy.

    Other than that, have fun.
