The new GM HDs were greatly improved in the frame/suspension/brakes in 2011 however all of those improvements won't replace an extra set of rear wheels when towing that kind of weight.

At almost 17% of the dry weight, that pin is toward the low end of the normal range of 15% to 25%.
That would translate to around 2300# at full GVWR, well within the range of a current model SRW 1-ton and within easy reach of some of the 3/4 tons if the truck was not otherwise loaded up.

IMHO a modern SRW 1-ton can easily handle that. Even some of the high GVWR option 3/4 tons are not out of the question unless you plan to put 6 adults in the truck. IMHO you don't "need" a dually unless you "want" one!
You need to do some "real number" math to see if it will work.

I like a dually better, but as mentioned, they're new 3/4 ton and 1 ton SRW trucks that can handle quite a bit of weight. Only unknown factor if what is actual GVW of the OP's 5er? I'd really want to know that before recommending a certain TV...

I've towed the same 15000lb 5th wheel with 2 SRW pickups and 2 dually pickups. I would only buy a dually pickup to tow it wirh.

The SRWs felt squishy in the rear when going around corners or curves. Both duallys feel very stable while towing.

get a 3500SRW

Check the ratings of a 2004 dually vs a modern SRW, 3/4 or 1-ton.

Let me get this straight...you are pulling a 38 ft. 5th wheel with a 1 ton dually now, but are going to switch to a 3/4 ton single...
