gmc duramax 2500

purchasing a new duramax, now we pull with a 2004 3500 duelly . 2014 crusader 38ft pro,s and cons of the srw versus drw. the ride now is very good now sway would it be the same with a newer srw duramax. I do a buddy has a 13 and he says his rides great but if he had a trailer the size of mine the only thing he would do is add air bags to stop the sway going down and around corners on a hill.
  • Age old question with lots of opinions. Personally there is no way I would ever consider towing that much trailer with anything less than a dually. But pop the popcorn, open a cool one and sit back and wait for the arguments to rage.
  • Maybe if you gave us more details about the fifth wheel (GVWR,empty weight, pin weight, weight loaded for camping, etc) and more about the truck you are considering (same type info plus axle weight ratings, year, brand, body style, GVWR, RAWR, etc)) we could have a basis for helping you. I have no info whether your loaded trailer is 12K or 17K lbs. Without more info, my general opinion is a NEW 3500 SRW can generally do pretty well up to about 13-14K. Above 14K I would be staying with DRW. It may work out to be different in your case, but you can only know if you work the numbers. Good luck with your decision.
