Still using a Gooseneck adapter on my Fiver since 2007.
Currently using the Reese Goosebox. Not entirely happy with it. Must air up airbag every trip (use on rough roads may "puff" the air out the overpressure valve on the bag) and it fills very slowly. They also want you to grease the pivot point on the ball connection every trip. More maintenance than is reasonable in my view and NOT fully disclosed in their advertising.
Miss my old Star Performance Kingpin (Gooseneck) adapter (Highly recommend this adapter as the glider motion alleviates almost all stresses), but VERY VERY rough Interstate roads in New Orleans bent the kingpin plate on the RV Hitch (Adapter stronger than the Lippert Hitch) so I decided to try the Goosebox, which was not much more expensive than a new pinbox.

I use a B&W turnover ball plus Companion Hitch. This provides the flexibility of using either a gooseneck or 5th wheel hitch. When the hitches are removed all that is left is a square hole in the bed of the truck.

The companion 5th wheel hitch works great and is easy to remove. It breaks down into two pieces, I can handle them but it would be better for two people or use a lift of some sort.

The safety chain requirement is all it takes to dissuade me from a gooseneck. It all feels too much like hitching a travel trailer.

We purchased a 2014 Cedar Creek 38fls with a Mor-Ryde hitch with the reinforced goose neck adapter plate installed by the dealer Timber View RV in Frankfort, IL

We hauled it to Ellenton, FL where we are now and had no problems on the way down.

It's really not rocket science. All one has to do is call the manufacturer of the 5er and ask THEM....get it straight from the horses mouth so to speak. If THEY say it will void some of your warranty to use a GN, then I would listen to them. If they say it doesn't matter, then you have the CORRECT answer......so simple that a caveman could do it:)

A lot of 5er manufacturers recommend 5ers hitches. I'd listen to the manufacturer before I listened to the dealer.Manufacturer is one that PAYS for warranty issues.....not the dealer...I'd get it in writing that it would be covered if dealer stated as much.

Before we purchased our fifth wheel, I asked the manufacturer about using a GN.
The quick and final answer was: Don't, the warranty will be voided, period.
We went with the B&W and the Companion and have been totally happy with that choice.
