gooseneck adapter

Has anyone used a gooseneck adapter on a 5er to have just a ball in the bed of the truck instead of the large hitch? We are considering trading the TT for a 5er but I hate to give up the bed space.

Just something to think about, before you go with a Gooseneck adapter.

This is the front of a 10,000# GVWR two horse GN horse trailer.

This is a 5er with a GN adapter.

If you under stand physics at all, you will understand that there is a lot of extrra stress on the 5er pin box.
  • You can either have a Companion gooseneck hitch put in and then get their 5er adapter, but that'll cost money. I went with a Curt Q20 that comes out in two pieces (or I just leave the whole hitch on the 5er), leaving only the bed rails left. Don't loose much at all that way.
  • I believe the Reese Goosebox is the only one approved by Lippert. It has an air bag and shock absorbers to soften the ride, just like the air ride pin boxes. But if you are still under warranty check with Lippert to make sure.

Or get one of the 5th wheel hitches with under bed mount instead of rails so that you can remove the hitch and have a flat bed.

What newmanfulltimer is trying to say is that almost all manufacturers, especially those using Lippert frames, will void the frame warranty if a gooseneck adapter is used instead of a regular FW hitch. I know that a lot of people use them without a problem, but why push your luck? I do understand the convenience, as I have, and use, both a GN and GW trailers. My particular FW, after learning more about it, would probably handle an adapter with no issues, but it's built hell-for-stout.

  • theres no manuf that will warrenty a trailer with a goosser yea lippert has one says they will good luck with that one.

You might want to consider a anderson hitch instead
