I agree a unit the caliber of GD should have a rear cap. While it's not a deal breaker I see it as a poor design issue.
Interestingly I don't think many buyers even know what a rear cap is:h
While I agree that rear caps look "high end," do they serve a real purpose other than adding weight? I've seen several instances of rear caps leaking causing damage - even separating completely.

Maybe all rear caps are not alike but my rear cap is more or less seamless. I'm sure there is a seam there somewhere but it is not obvious vs. Grand design where there is an obvious seam. I prefer the clean lines of the rear cap. GD has a nice clean sleek look until you get to the rear cap.
For the most part the cap is aesthetic. Non cap models are not prone to leaking so in the end it really should not matter.
